PRINTING BASICS
Choosing plain garments for screen printing
A consistent print run begins with consistent garments. Compare surface, composition and construction, then match the ink and curing process to the chosen blank.
Look for a consistent surface
Read the fabric and feature information. Stitch density, texture and garment construction can affect the printing surface. Use the supplier details to make a shortlist, then compare real samples in your chosen colours.
Match the ink system to the fabric
Different ink systems have different fabric, preparation and curing requirements. Check the ink supplier’s instructions for the selected blend and colour. Polyester-containing fabrics can require particular attention to dye migration.
Check your design area
Side seams, pockets, zips and garment shapes can change how an item sits on the print setup. Plan the design placement using a physical sample and the equipment you intend to use.
Test before the production run
Print, cure and wash-test a sample following the garment and ink-system instructions. Check the finish and durability before scaling up. Keep your style, colour and process notes so repeat orders have a clear reference.
