THE RIGHT BLANK STARTS WITH YOUR PROCESS
Ink, heat or thread?
The best blank clothing for printing or embroidery is the garment that works with your equipment, design and customer. Use this as a shortlist builder, then check the exact colour specification and test a physical sample. A brand name or GSM number alone cannot guarantee the result.
| Your process | A useful starting point | Check before the batch |
|---|---|---|
| DTF transfers | Cotton, suitable blends, hoodies and totes | Check the transfer system’s fabric instructions, heat limits and polyester dye migration. |
| Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) | Tees, sweatwear and bags for cut-vinyl projects | Use vinyl intended for the fabric. Coatings, stretch and sublimated polyester need particular care. |
| DTG printing | Cotton or cotton-rich tees to sample | Match pretreatment, ink and curing to the selected fabric and colour. |
| Screen printing | Consistent tees or cotton-faced sweatwear | Choose an ink system and curing process appropriate to the fabric; test the finished print. |
| Embroidery | Polos, sweatshirts, hoodies and accessible headwear | Match backing, stitch density and hooping to the design and fabric; inspect a stitch-out. |
| Conventional sublimation | Suitable white or light polyester clothing | A cotton tee is not a direct substitute. Confirm polyester content and the complete ink/paper system. |
For printers: read the face fabric.
DTF, HTV, DTG and screen printing are different processes. A cotton-faced hoodie can offer a useful surface even when the garment contains polyester. The AWDis College Hoodie is an example to compare; follow your ink or transfer instructions for the chosen colour and composition.
DTF & HTV blank clothing guideFor embroiderers: support the stitch.
A small chest logo and a dense back design ask different things of a garment. Check stretch, weight and hoop access. Cut-away backing can support unstable fabrics such as knits and fleece; the fabric and design determine which weight to use.
Choosing blanks for embroideryFor craft makers: start small.
For cutting-machine vinyl, gift projects or a craft stall, try one cotton tote or tee in the exact colour you want. Keep seams clear of the design, use the material maker’s instructions, and wash the sample. Record the garment code and process settings so the next one is repeatable.

- Check fit and labels.GSM measures weight, not overall quality. A tear-out label does not mean every label disappears.

GOOD QUESTIONS. USEFUL ANSWERS.
Blank clothing FAQs.
Can anyone buy blank clothing, or do I need a trade account?
Plain Clothing welcomes home crafters, hobby embroiderers, printers and clothing brands. Browse the same catalogue and order the quantity you need; you do not need to run a print business to choose your blanks.
Can I buy one blank T-shirt or hoodie to test?
Yes. Start with a single garment in your chosen colour and size. Include delivery in your sample budget, then test fit, decoration and washing before committing to a larger order.
Which blank T-shirts should I compare for printing?
Start with the Gildan SoftStyle GD01, Gildan Heavy Cotton GD05 and Ecologie Cascades EA001 in the catalogue. Compare composition, weight, fit and the chosen colour’s specification. Your printing system and sample result decide which is right for the job.
What should I look for in blank hoodies for embroidery?
Check the fabric, stretch, intended logo position and access for hooping. The AWDis College Hoodie JH001 is one cotton-faced option to compare. Choose stabiliser and digitising for the garment and design, then inspect a sample stitch-out.
Are these blanks suitable for Cricut or Silhouette projects?
You can use compatible blanks with heat transfer vinyl cut on a Cricut, Silhouette or other cutter. The vinyl manufacturer’s fabric and application instructions determine suitability. Cutting-machine compatibility alone does not make every garment safe to heat press.
Can I sublimate on any plain cotton T-shirt?
For conventional direct sublimation, choose a suitable white or light polyester garment. Ordinary cotton is not an equivalent substitute. Specialist cotton decoration systems have their own ink, paper or transfer requirements, so check the complete system before ordering.
Does plain clothing mean there are no labels?
Plain means supplied without our added print or embroidery. Manufacturer labels or branding can remain. A tear-out label is a specified removable label feature; check what care and fibre information remains before planning your own branding.
Are prices including VAT, and how much is delivery?
Prices include applicable VAT by default, with an Ex VAT display option. DPD UK delivery is £8 plus applicable VAT. Delivery is free when the garment subtotal is over £250 excluding VAT; exactly £250 does not qualify. Check the delivery page for stock, postcode and timing conditions.
