FOR THE PRINT BENCH
Choosing blanks for DTF and heat transfer vinyl
A plain garment is a starting point. A reliable transfer comes from matching the fabric, transfer system and application process—and checking a sample.
Know the selected fabric
DTF and heat transfer vinyl systems can have different fabric requirements. Read the selected garment’s composition and the transfer manufacturer’s instructions together. Check for coatings, textured surfaces, stretch and any heat-sensitive components.
Take extra care with polyester
Heat and dye can affect the result on polyester-containing garments. Check whether the transfer system is intended for the fabric and whether it provides the protection your application needs. Do not assume that the same settings will work on every colour or blend.
Work around garment construction
Seams, zips, pockets and thick collars can affect even contact with a press. Choose a practical design area and equipment that suits the garment. A front photograph helps you plan, but use a physical sample to confirm the surface and placement.
Follow the system instructions
Use the transfer maker’s specified application and finishing instructions. This guide does not prescribe a universal temperature, time or pressure: the correct settings depend on the system and garment.
Keep a sample record
Log the style code, colour, size, fabric, transfer and application settings. Review a washed sample before scaling up. For a first project, a small, focused range makes comparison easier than ordering many different fabrics at once.
Find your starting point.
Compare garment photographs, fabric, weight and label details in the catalogue. Choose the exact colour and size for your sample.
